"Owning a racehorse is probably the most expensive way of getting on to a racecourse for nothing..." - Clement Freud There was a lot of work to do. Almost too much, really. We needed to get a sizeable area of the land levelled to form an enclosed paddock, and we needed to build a comfortable stable, with lots of hay and a water trough and one of those doors that's split horizontally across the middle, and all of this needed to be completed before the horse arrived - a horse that had meant a lot to my late Aunt, whose last wish was that it should remain in the family and be looked after by one of us. Specifically me, as I was the one she had bequeathed it to.
When they went to the driveway, I felt like there wouldn't be a horse arriving at all... Not sure why. But The whole time I did wonder, who is looking after the horse in the meantime? Where is it eating, staying sleeping? I thought it might be dead! Great story Chris!
Thanks! This one definitely could've had quite a few different endings, for sure. That's one of the most fun things about writing these kind of stories. It's all about the misdirection, and trying to keep the reader guessing until the big reveal. I'm glad you enjoyed it... 😎
That is very true. It's often surprising how much items like that can be worth - especially something that old. So things might work out for him after all! Thanks for reading, and thanks for the great Comment... 😎
I was expecting a bottle of some sort of liquor - perhaps an exclusive scotch or bourbon:. "Black horse bourbon - racing to you from the blue hills of Kentucky."
He probably would've preferred that. A bottle of bourbon could've at least helped him drown his sorrows! Haha! Thanks for reading. Your support is much appreciated... 😎
That could have been a fun twist too, yes. The poor guy ends up with one of those little Shetland ponies, instead of the majestic stallion he was expecting. But on the plus side, it's so small, he thinks he might be able to keep his racing dreams alive by disguising it as a Greyhound. Haha! Thanks for reading... 😎

Typical. After all that hard work too 😬
Haha! Yes, he got the wrong end of the stick, unfortunately, and went a bit over the top! Thanks for reading, and thanks for the fun comment... 😎
This article is a wonderful introduction to your writing, Chris. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks Heidi! Welcome to 'Tales of the Zeitgeist'. It's great to have you here. I'm glad you liked the story... 😎
Thank you so much, Chris. Looking forward to reading more of your writing.
Oh my, that was a somewhat unpleasant surprise, a ceramic horse instead of a fiery stallion gallopping across the driveway.
Although, if that old, the ceramic horse might be quite valuable.
A brilliant end, Chris! 🙂🐎

I was expecting the horse to be a mini as that would have been quite the ending as well.
