It’s always a zoo

Not the one you expected

They call this one “work.”

Ahh, the cage of the '9 to 5'. It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it. Haha! 🏯😎🏯

You're very welcome! That last line is incredibly profound. Cages can take many different forms, for sure... 🏯😎🏯

Sort of dark but how I actually feel:

Wild animals

Better behind bars but safe

Than dead by poachers

Expand full comment
Chris J. Franklin's avatar

Very thought-provoking! While zoo animals aren't as 'free' as their wild counterparts, they are definitely much safer, and tend to live much longer, in a place where they can be loved and cared for, which is a very positive thing... 🏯😎🏯

There's a zoo within.

Haha! That's so true. There's whole communities of them, full of bustling life, that have taken up residence in all of us... 🏯😎🏯

You can feed the goats

Goats are very energetic, for sure. It's often hard to keep them still long enough to take a decent picture with them. Especially the little ones! Haha... 🏯😎🏯

Behind thick glass walls

We observe the odd creatures

Who stare back at us

.

They press their flat hands

Against our transparent home

What do they expect?

.

Some make strange faces

Contorting lips, showing teeth

Is this their greeting?

.

Small ones jump and scream

Pointing fingers excitedly

What amuses them?

.

They hold thin devices

Capturing our existence

In tiny black boxes

.

Some mimic our sounds

A poor gorilla echo

Do they understand?

.

They bring colorful

Paper wrapped food offerings

Never for sharing

.

Why do they gather

To watch us simply exist?

Their lives must be dull

.

Some wear our patterns

Zebra stripes, leopard spots

Strange form of respect?

.

Each day they return

Different faces, same actions

We are the true zoo

Brilliantly done! Because as much as we might like to think we're the only ones doing the observing in a zoo, the animals are definitely watching us too, and it's fascinating to wonder what they might be thinking... 🏯😎🏯

It's a wonderful way to grow up, for sure. It's good for children to be around animals. They're a relaxing and calming influence, and it also helps them learn how to care for things, from an early age... 🏯😎🏯
