On this day, in 2017, The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus (founded by P. T. Barnum, James Anthony Bailey, and The Ringling Brothers), performed for the final time in its original format, and then closed, primarily due to concerns over animal welfare. Known as 'The Greatest Show on Earth', it had been running for 146 years. However, after reinventing itself, it relaunched in 2023, as a brand new entertainment spectacular, which is now a completely animal-free experience.
