In a bar in DUBLIN, on the banks of the Liffey, where we'd met and fell in love and learnt too many BAD HABITS what seemed like a lifetime ago, we found ourselves sitting across from each other once again.
As some SLOW BLUES played in the background, we tried to make some small talk and avoid anything flirtatious, but there were things that I had to say, words that were fighting to leave my lips and I couldn't contain them any longer.
When I looked at my OLD FLAME, even just for a moment, I felt young again.
I felt like I was home.
And if there was even the slightest chance our BROKEN DREAMS could become real again, then I had to take it, and so I told her: "I'm STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU."
SARAH didn't reply for what seemed like forever.
Then she threw her Guinness on me, and said I had no right to be saying those things and confusing her two days before her wedding.
And I broke out into a COLD SWEAT, until I noticed the smile just starting to form at the corners of her mouth.
If I was serious, we would have to LEAVE THIS TOWN, she said, there would be no way to stay once everything had been thrown into chaos.
And she was right.
Her family, and her now former husband-to-be, had never liked me much to begin with, and claiming her as my SWEETHEART just two days before she was due to get married would be the last straw.
But as we both agreed, it was better than doing it two days after...
