HOUSE OF HAIKU PROMPT: ZOMBIE
Welcome to the ‘House of Haiku’, where the challenge is to create something inspired by the Prompt below using only 17 syllables, laid out in three lines, containing five, seven, and five syllables respectively.
Let’s have some fun writing together!
On this day, in 1968, the groundbreaking horror movie ‘Night of the Living Dead’ premiered at the Fulton Theater, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Directed by George A. Romero, and telling the story of a group of people trapped in a farmhouse that comes under attack from a swarm of the undead, it went on to become one of the most influential horror films of all time, and although it was not the first to feature zombies as the main antagonists, it established many of the characteristics that have come to be associated with them in modern culture, such as the distinctive gait, and the key element of the infection being spread to others by being bitten.
And so, to celebrate the Halloween Season, our Spooky Prompt for this week is: ZOMBIE
Stumbling around, he,
Groaned loudly, desperate for,
His morning coffee… 🎃😎🎃
The new Monthly Recap is available now, which celebrates this fun weekly event’s Six-Month Anniversary, and also takes a look back at the four Prompts we explored in September, and the fantastic contributions that were submitted in response to them…
If you’ve enjoyed spending time here today, there’s lots more quirky humour, and fun to be had, waiting for you in my books.

zombie and vampire
friends in eternal death/life
but who bit whom first
My sterling haiku contribution for Zombie! Halloween here I come.
Rot drips from torn lips,
moonlight stirs the hunger deep—
silence breaks with teeth.
