Welcome to the ‘House of Haiku’, where the challenge is to create something inspired by the Prompt below using only 17 syllables, laid out in three lines, containing five, seven, and five syllables respectively.
Let’s have some fun writing together!
On this day, in 1964, the world’s oldest tree, known as Prometheus, was mistakenly cut down by geographer Donald Rusk Currey, in White Pine County, Nevada. Having already taken several core samples of other nearby specimens to study how climate affected their growth, he was unable to do so with Prometheus, and so requested it to be felled for further analysis. This request was granted, as it was believed to be just one of many old trees growing together in the area. However, upon closer inspection, it was discovered the tree was of huge historic significance, and was likely to have been almost 5000 years old.
And so, our Prompt for this week is: TREE
Up in the Tree House,
Youth was bliss, and there we had,
An awkward first kiss…

Green sunlight we grow
Reaching above, so below,
our roots holding soil
Little apple tree
Loaded down with tasty fruit
Branches touch the ground
