On this day, in 1908, Charles Furnas, a friend of the Wright Brothers, accompanied each of them in turn, with Wilbur piloting first, and then Orville, for two brief, but momentous flights on board the two-seater Wright Flyer III, which saw him become the world's first aircraft passenger.
