Thanks Heidi! Flash Fiction is a really interesting and enjoyable format to work with, and it's something I want to experiment with a lot more on here. I'm glad you enjoyed them... 😎

Definitely, thanks Chris! It’s a great format for the use of an action and an apt image. Great use of suspense because of the compression of time.

Absolutely. It's actually amazing, and often very surprising, how much you can convey in 100 words or less! 😎

Chris, are these exercises from chapter one on How to Write A Novel? Just joking. Guess I'm just projecting. Maybe I'll round up my fits and starts and give you a little competition!

All my silliness aside, this is intriguing. Particularly, THE DETECTORISTS.

Haha! In a way, they are a sort of writing exercise. Throughout this series, I'm trying to explore what's possible in 50-100 words, across different styles and genres. You should definitely have a go. It's a really fun format to play around with. I'm glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for reading... 😎

Having only tried this once so far, I truly appreciate how difficult it is to thin your message down to a small number of words. Even these days, when we have imogis that are supposed to stand in for an entire sentence, we have a hard time with brevity.

That is very true. In a way, it's almost counterintuitive, because as writers we usually have our focus set on aiming for much longer word counts. But that is one of the things I find so beautiful about these, because in forcing you to be succinct and convey things quickly, it does train you to also be more direct in your longer work, which can greatly improve the reading experience... 😎

Why do I wonder if these are part of the same bigger plot? In a flash a story!

You definitely could do Flash Fiction that way, for sure, where they're all snippets of a larger whole. Some of these do have that feel, I guess, and could potentially be interpreted as strands of the same plot. That's a very interesting take on it. But then that is the beauty of very short stories like this. You can pretty much go anywhere with them, and they do often hint at something much bigger going on around them. Thanks for the insightful Comment, and thanks for reading... 😎
